
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to spend Rs 51.32 billion as capex during 2014-15. The amount will be dedicated towards enabling subscriber expansion by adding 10 million GSM lines, 10 million mobile connections, 3 million broadband connections and 20,000 route kilometers of optical fiber in 2014-15.
The company had targeted 9 million lines of GSM in 2013-14 but could only add 4.15 million lines. Also, 1.61 million new broadband connections were aimed at in 2013-14 but not a single connection was added in the year. Further, against the target of adding 8 million new mobile phone connections, it lost 6.1 million connections in 2013-14. The company also registered losses worth Rs 70.85 billion in 2013-14.
Till March 2014, BSNL increased its GSM connections to 92.4 million along with 9.96 million wireless broadband connections. It also extended its 3G services to 1,982 cities in the country.
