The Taiwan-based chipset maker MediaTek has stated that India is the largest market for 3G growth in smartphones and 2G feature phones in the world. The company is planning to ship about 350 million smartphone chipsets by end-2014, with India being one of the top five markets.
With the rollout of 4G network in the country in 2015, the company is expecting to launch affordable 4G smartphones in India by the same time. Further, it is planning to launch devices with the new 4G long term evolution (LTE) octa-core multi-mode chipsets by end-2014 on the premium end.
MediaTek has a share of 30 per cent share in global chipset market and shipped around 220 million smartphones chipsets till December 2013.
