GSM Association (GSMA) has published a set of guidelines for the Internet of Things (IoT) market intended for use by all players in the mobile ecosystem. The guidelines list a number of best practices in areas such as data aggregation within devices, non-synchronous network access, application scalability and managing signaling traffic from de-activated or out-of-subscription SIMs. These guidelines have been backed by network operators such as China Mobile, China Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, Tata Teleservices, Deutsche Telekom, AT&T Etisalat, Orange, Telef?nica, Telenor Connexion and VimpelCom as well as ecosystem partners like Sierra Wireless and Jasper. GSMA is also developing a common set of acceptance tests for IoT devices and applications so that a standard set of connection efficiency tests for IoT devices and applications can be established. These steps are being taken to ensure that the IoT market develops with the right standards and best practices in place and allow the market to grow unimpeded.
