The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has directed Loop Mobile to inform its subscribers about discontinuation of services in the Mumbai circle. The direction comes as the operator?s cellular mobile telecom service (CMTS) license expires on November 28, 2014, following which it will have to shut down operations as it did not acquire spectrum in the auctions.

Loop Mobile had earlier informed the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in March 2014 that due to various commercial reasons it is unable to renew its CMTS license and would therefore have to cease to provide its services with effect from November 29, 2014.

According to TRAI, Loop Mobile should inform the date of discontinuation of its services in the Mumbai circle to all its subscribers either in writing or by sending SMS/email within ten days of issuance of the direction. The intimation should also be given to every new subscriber at the time of enrollment. Loop has been further directed to submit compliance report within 15 days of receiving the direction.
