Tata Communications is planning to introduce the voice over LTE (VoLTE) solutions in India. The VoLTE solutions would help the telecom operators to offer voice calls over the 4G network, which transfers data at high speed but has not yet been considered as a carrier of voice.
Since the voice revenues have the highest share in the total revenues for the telecom operators, the high-definition VoLTE will potentially deal with the ongoing concern of mobile voice quality issues. An improved voice quality will lead to increased usage and better revenue for the telecom companies.
At present, the VoLTE solutions have been deployed only in small countries, such as South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong. Also, VoLTE rollouts in the United States and Japan are reportedly expected to commence towards the end of 2014.
