According to market research firm IDC, the overall India mobile phone market grew by five per cent quarter on quarter for the quarter ended June 2014 and stood at 63.21 million units in April-June 2014. Further, only Micromax and Karbonn have exceeded the market growth among the top five handset vendors in the country. Micromax grew by 18 per cent while Karbonn experienced a growth of 54 per cent for the quarter ended June 2014.

Moreover, the total smartphone shipments grew by 84 per cent from 10.02 million units for the quarter ended June 2013 to 18.42 million units for the quarter ended June 2014.

Among the vendors, Samsung was the top handset maker in the Indian market for the quarter ended June 2014. Samsung was leading the market with a share of 17 per cent during the quarter. During January-March 2014, its market share stood at 20 per cent.

In the smartphone market as well, Samsung has the highest share at 29 per cent, though it was lower than 30 per cent during the first quarter of 2014. On the other hand, Micromax, the second largest vendor in the smartphone market, has witnessed an incrase in its market from 15 per cent in January- March 2014 to 18 per cent during the quarter ended June 2014.

The other top vendors in April-June 2014 were Karbonn and Lava International with eight per cent and  six per cent share of the total smartphone market respectively. Karbonn Mobiles? market share declined by two percentage points from ten per cent in the January-March 2014 quarter While that of Lava International remained unchanged.
