Microsoft is planning to set up a data centre in India to provide cloud solutions to the Indian businesses. With the data centre, it will become the first multinational company (MNC) to establish such a facility in the country.

Presently, the Indian companies, especially financial services firms, are unable to use the cloud solutions for specific requirements due to the Reserve Bank of India?s guidelines that prohibit storage of customer information outside India. Also, the power supply uncertainty, limited internet connectivity along with limited bandwidth has prevented global companies to set up data centres in India.

Currently, Mircosoft offers cloud computing services to Indian customers through its 13 global data centres,  with the only Asian centre in Singapore.
