Vodafone India has reported a 6.4 per cent decline in its service revenues from ?1.09 billion for the quarter ended June 2013 to ?1.02 billion for the corresponding quarter in 2014. This also resulted in a decline in the average revenue per user, which decreased from Rs 196 to Rs 193 during the same period.
Vodafone?s mobile customers in the country increased by 9.3 per cent from 155.03 million in June 2013 to 169.9 million in June 2014. As a consequence, the total voice minutes on the network also increased from 159.5 billion minutes to 169.6 billion minutes during the same period.
Data usage grew by 111.8 per cent from 17.80 billion MB to 37.70 billion MB during the same period. As of June 30, 2014, Vodafone?s total active data customers were 57 million, including 10 million 3G customers and 29 million smartphone users, which accounted for 17 per cent of the customer base.
For the six months period ended March 2014, Vodafone India reported revenues of ?1.8 billion, as compared to ?2 billion for the same period in 2012-13. Meanwhile, the total expenditure declined from ?1.43 billion to ?1.36 billion during the same period. As a result, the company reported a two fold increase in its adjusted operating profits from ?104 million to ?210 million.
The company also reported that it has launched its mobile payment service, M-Pesa across India. As of June 30, 2014, the service was being provided through approximately 66,000 sales agents, 65 per cent of which were in rural areas, with 1.5 million registered customers, of which about 300,000 were active users.
