According to Infonetics Research, the global carrier router and switch market revenue stood at $3.2 billion in the first quarter of 2014. Further, the global carrier router and switch market comprising IP edge and core routers and carrier Ethernet switches (CES) grew by two per cent in the period under review.

In the first quarter of 2014, the global carrier router and switch market was led by Cisco, which was followed by Juniper Networks and Alcatel-Lucent in the second and third position.

The research firm points out that despite overall growth in the carrier router and switch market, revenues for product segments ? IP edge and core routers and CES witnessed doubled digit decline sequentially in the first quarter of 2014. Meanwhile, revenue from major geographical regions (including Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific, Caribbean and Latin America) declined in the first quarter of 2014 over corresponding period a year ago. However, carrier router and switch market revenue witnessed growth in North America.

Infonetics Research estimates that between 2013 and 2018, the market for edge routers, core routers and CES will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4.3 per cent, 2.9 per cent and 0.7 per cent, respectively.
