According to 4G Americas, the global long term evolution (LTE) connections reached 200 million by end-2013. Out of the total connections, North America accounted for 100 million LTE connections, representing half of the worldwide LTE subscribers.

Further, in North America and Latin America, 3GPP mobile broadband (including LTE and high speed packet access) grew to 417 million connections in 2013, and currently represents over one-third of all mobile connections in the Americas region. Also, 3GPP in the Americas region accounts for 38 per cent of all mobile connections in the region witnessing about 50 per cent annual growth at the end of 2013. However, the share of 2G GSM technology in the total mobile connections declined by 9.6 per cent with subscribers migrating to 3GPP mobile broadband.
