The Government of Myanmar has awarded telecom licences to the Telenor Group. The operator has won licences for providing telecom services using spectrum in the 900 MHz and 2.1 GHz band. The licences have a validity period of 15 years.

Telenor plans to launch services in Myanmar over the next eight months. The operator will establish its network using high speed packet access and long term evolution technology. It plans to offer voice and 2G and 3G services over its network.

To rollout operations, Telenor has put in place a management team in Myanmar. Currently, the operator has a workforce of 150 in the country and going forward it plans to hire another 1,000 employees by the end of 2014.
