According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), in end-December 2013, the rural subscriber base in the country stood at 281.21 million. Operators added 3.27 million new rural subscribers in the period under review.

As per the industry association, Bharti Airtel had the maximum number of rural subscribers – 90.15 million-in December 2013. The operator added 1.64 million customers, which was the highest number in the period under review.

Further, circle-wise, the Uttar Pradesh (East) service area had the maximum number of rural subscribers – 29.03 million in December 2013. State-wise, Andhra Pradesh witnessed the maximum addition of rural subscribers -541,929-in December 2013.
