ZTE is in talks with Bharti Airtel for deploying 4G equipment in two metros including Delhi and Mumbai. The operator plans to roll-out 4G services in these two circles.
In case ZTE bags the deal, the company would be setting-up about 6,000 towers and providing network equipment for establishing a 4G network for Bharti Airtel in the Mumbai and Delhi circles.
Earlier, ZTE had partnered with Bharti Airtel for rolling out 4G services in Kolkata, Punjab and Haryana. The company had installed more than 1,800 base transceiver stations across these circles, while in December 2013, ZTE also won a contract to deploy 4G infrastructure for Aircel in two circles.
Besides focusing on providing 4G telecom equipment to Indian operators, ZTE is also looking at the possibility of direct sales of handsets to users in the country. According to ZTE, operators are no longer interested in bundling offers as they do not have enough funds to subsidies handsets. Over the last year, ZTE?s bundling business has declined by 50 per cent. In 2013, the company sold about 40 million handsets in India. In 2014, the telecom equipment vendor plans to sell about 60 million handsets.
