According to Gartner, global mobile phone sales stood at 455.6 million units in the third quarter of 2013, witnessing a growth of 5.7 per cent over the corresponding period in 2012.
Smartphone sales accounted for 55 per cent of overall mobile sales in the third quarter of 2013. Globally, 250.2 million units of smartphones were sold, a 45.8 per cent growth over the third quarter of 2012. Asia-Pacific led the growth in the smartphone and the mobile phone segments at 77.3 per cent and 11.9 per cent respectively. Overall sales of mobile phones also increased in Western Europe and the Americas.
