Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) plans to invest Rs 4 billion to enhance 2G and 3G network coverage in the National Capital Region (NCR). As part of the project, the operator will install close to 1,500 and 2,000 base stations for its 2G and 3G networks respectively.
MTNL is also planning to increase the speed of its 3G mobile internet service by up to six times. Currently, MTNL offers 3.6 Mbps mobile internet connectivity. Going forward, the operator plans to enhance this speed to 21.1 Mbps by migrating from HSDPA to HSPA+ technology.
Currently, MTNL is in the process of evaluating technical bids for the project. Telecom equipment vendor such as Nokia Solutions and Networks, Alcatel Lucent, Huawei and ZTE have submitted their bids for the same.
