The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has awarded a unified licence to Idea Cellular for seven circles. With this, the operator can use any technology to provide telecom services.
Idea Cellular has received unified licences for the Assam, West Bengal, Kolkata, North East, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir and Odisha circles.
Earlier, Idea Cellular had approached DoT for a unified licence for the seven circles where it emerged as the second largest winner in the November 2012 spectrum auction.
