
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has allotted a third block of 1.25 MHz spectrum in the 800 MHz band to Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL). Earlier, the operator had won three blocks of 1.25 MHz spectrum in the 800 MHz band in the March 2013 auction. The company won spectrum for providing CDMA services in eight circles for Rs 36.39 billion.
With this, SSTL will be able to launch next generation REV B phase II services shortly. Currently, the operator provides REV B phase II services in Jaipur, Bhiwadi, Jodhpur, Kota and Udaipur in Rajasthan circle.
Commenting on the development, Dmitry Shukov, chief executive officer, SSTL, says, ?This represents a major milestone, as it would enable SSTL to provide its customers with the next generation Rev B Phase II telecom services across all its circles.?
Shukov adds that going forward the company plans to acquire about 5 MHz of contiguous spectrum in the 800 MHz spectrum band. Currently it has 3.75 MHz spectrum in nine circles.
