According to Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) service providers have added about 3.57 million new subscribers in June 2013.
As per the data released by the industry body representing GSM operators, the subscriber base at the end of June 2013 stood at 671.13 million. In comparison in May 2013 the country?s subscriber base stood at 671.13 million.
COAI reports that Bharti Airtel led the subscriber growth in the industry as it added 1.26 million subscribers in June 2013. During the period under review Idea Cellular and Vodafone India added 1.21 million and 0.35 million subscribers each. Other players like Aircel, Uninor and Videocon added 0.61 million, 0.3 million and 0.13 million subscribers, respectively.
While state-run operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited did not add new subscriber in the month of June 2013, the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited lost 0.09 million users. Loop Mobile in Mumbai too did not acquire any new subscriber.
According to COAI at the end of June 2013, Bharti Airtel led the Indian telecom market with a total subscriber base of 190.91 million. It was followed by Vodafone India and Idea Cellular in the second and third position with a subscriber base of 155.03 million and 124.97 million. Other players like Aircel, Uninor and Videocon had a subscriber base of 60.97 million, 32.30 million and 2.42 million, respectively. BSNL and MTNL had a subscriber base of 97.17 million and 4.34 million.
