According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the total GSM mobile user base in February 2012 stood at 655.59 million.

The country’s GSM mobile subscriber base declined by 1.97 million in February this year. Last month, the country’s mobile user base stood at 657.56 million.

Following the discontinuation of services in various circles, Uninor lost the highest number of subscribers in February, 2013. With the loss of 8.34 million subscribers the company’s user base at the end of February 2013 stood at 31.77 million. Other operators like Videocon Telecommunications Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited lost 0.19 million and 0.20 million subscribers at the end of the month under consideration. Their subscriber base stood at 2.06 million and 4.91 million, respectively. Aircel’s user base stood at 60.87 million with the loss of 0.69 million users.

Other players like Idea Cellular, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India added new users in the month of February 2013. Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel’s total subscriber base for the period under review stood at 119.25 million and 186.62 million, with additions of 2.85 million and 2.42 million subscribers respectively. Vodafone India added 2.18 million new customers and its total subscriber base at the end of February 2013 stood at 149.88 million.
