Smartphones will account for 50 per cent of all handset shipments by 2014: ABI Research

ABI Research has forecasted that Apple?s market share will peak in 2013 at 22 per cent, according to news reports.

Also, the firm says that since 2010, Samsung has been growing its share in the smartphone market from 8 per cent to over 30 per cent in 2012. This increase has been owing to Samsung?s focus on the Android operating system, which accounts for 90 per cent of the company?s smartphone shipments.

Meanwhile, as per the firm, smartphone shipments will account for 50 per cent of all handset shipments by 2014. By 2018, 2.4 billion handsets will be shipped, with smartphones accounting for 69 per cent of all shipments. LTE handsets will account for 35 per cent of all handset shipments and 50 per cent of smartphone shipments in 2018.
