According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the Uttar Pradesh circle accounts for the largest number of telecom subscribers in the country. It is followed by the Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar circles
Together these five states account for about half of the total wireless subscriber base in the country. As on February 2013, India had a total telecom subscriber base of 861.66 million. Out of this Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have a subscriber base of 121.60 million and 71.81 million respectively. The two states are followed by Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh with a total user base of 67.73 million and 64.12 million, respectively. Bihar is placed fifth with a total user base of 60.73 million.
Other states like Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan have a total subscriber base of 52.45 million, 51.43 million, 51.23 million and 47.83 million, respectively.
