The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) wing of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has recommended that Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) be allowed to test voice services on its upcoming 4G network, say news reports.

TEC has suggested to DoT that RIL be allowed to test about 10,000 connections for 4G voice services and the company be allotted the required mobile numbers for the testing. Further, it has suggested that RIL-owned Infotel Broadband be allowed to connect its networks with other telecom operators for the purpose of testing. This would enable 10,000 new mobile users to make and receive calls to existing mobile users.

TEC has also suggested that the testing to be carried out by RIL be restricted to a geographic area at a time, and the same infrastructure be used in different circles as the testing progresses. It has also recommended that the government stipulates a time period for testing of 4G services by RIL and ensure that the company does not offer commercial services during the testing phase.
