According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), as per existing licence agreements, operators cannot share consumer specific information with banks or any other agency, say news reports.

TRAI’s statement is in response to the Credit Information Bureau Limited (CIBIL) seeking specific subscriber information.

Currently, most operator’s access credit history or CIBIL ratings to fix the credit limit for their post-paid customers. To further assist the operators, CIBIL has asked for access to subscriber-related information.

TRAI has reportedly said that CIBIL can approach the Department of Telecommunications to seek customer specific information from the operators
