The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has accepted the Cellular Operators Association of India’s (COAI) petition against the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on ISD services, say news reports.
Now, TDSAT has asked TRAI to reply to the petition and not take any coercive action against the operators on the issue. The case will be next heard on October 8, 2012.
Earlier, TRAI had directed operators to deactivate the ISD facility on prepaid numbers and restore it only after a subscriber requests for the service. The regulator further requested the operators to inform users about this decision via SMS.
Countering this, COAI stated that TRAI’s directive was an “excessive” measure to counter the issue of missed calls from international numbers without considering the operators’ views on the same.
