Nokia Siemens Networks is looking for prospective buyers for its business support systems (BSS) unit.

The company is planning to sell off BSS unit as it wants to increase its focus on mobile broadband and combat declining profits, owing to a tough economic environment, where telecom companies have cut down on their spending.

To improve its profitability, the company is selling off non-core units and laying off about a quarter of its staff. Earlier, the company sold off its network equipment for wired networks and exited the Wi-Max space.

The company is also undertaking a restructuring exercise to maximise its operations. With the company scaling-up its offshore services capabilities in India, the headcount of the company in India is expected to increase.

Currently, Nokia Siemens Networks has about 10, 000 employees in the country along with 5,000 contractors.
