Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communications and IT is of the view that the government should get a reasonable market price for the spectrum during the forthcoming 2G spectrum auction.

Pilot is hopeful that a decision on spectrum pricing would be taken soon after the recent reconstitution of empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on telecom under P Chidambaram. Currently, the Minister of Home Affairs, Chidambaram has been appointed as the Chairman of EGoM after Sharad Pawar, Minister for Agriculture declined to step into the position vacated by Pranabh Mukherjee.

According to Pilot, it is the government?s responsibilty to ensure that the consumers get best services at affordable prices. Currently, India has lowest call rates and going forward the country must ensure that the consumer interest is protected.
