Reliance Communications (RCOM), as part of a consortium led by HCL Infosystems, has reportedly bagged the contract for the government’s national identity card programme, Aadhaar.

The Aadhar programme was chalked out by the Planning Commission as an initiative to provide identification for each resident across the country and use it as a tool to deliver welfare services.

The contract is believed to be worth Rs 3 billion and RCOM will reportedly provide the necessary networks and telecommunications backbone for the programme.
