Sify Technologies Limited has established an undersea cable landing station in Mumbai, say news reports. The company has said that the landing station is operationally ready.
According to Raju Vegesna, CEO and managing director, the landing station can support up to four cable systems. He added that Sify spent around Rs 400 million-500 million on building the landing station.
He added that the landing station was built to replace the outdated cable systems in use currently and to support heavy media traffic.
The first company to land their sub-sea cable system at Sify’s landing station will be West Asian-based Gulf Bridge International. This cable has a capacity of up to 10 terabits per second on certain sections and is designed to accommodate the rapid growth in Internet, telephony and video traffic originating from and terminating in West Asia as well as the European and African markets.
Sify has also signed a Landing Party Agreement with MENA submarine cable system SAE, a licensed telecommunications operator in Egypt. MENA connects Europe, Africa and Asia.
