
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) received Rs 2.36 billion from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) as spectrum usage charges for the first half (April-September) of the current fiscal.
He said, “Up to the second quarter ended September 30, 2011, the government has received Rs 0.169 billion from MTNL and Rs 2.20 billion from BSNL as spectrum usage charges.?
Operators have to pay a percentage of their adjusted gross revenue (AGR) to the government as spectrum usage charges.
