In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Milind Deora, Minister of State for Communications and IT has said that in the first half of fiscal year 2011-12, more than 41,000 telecom subscribers have filed complaints with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against various operators. The complaints have been filed on grounds of poor network and other service grievances.

He stated, “From April 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011, TRAI has received 1,418 service related complaints, which include complaints relating to poor network/services against various telecom service providers.?

He added that 41,341 complaints against various telecom service providers, including grievances related to poor network and services have been received in DoT?s public grievances cell between April 1, 2011 and October 31, 2011.

Most of the complaints filed with DoT were against Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). Over 24,000 complaints were received against MTNL and 11,000 against BSNL.

DoT received a total of 1,859 complaints against Reliance Communications (RCOM) with and TRAI filed 232 complaints against the operator.

1,392 grievances were lodged with DoT against Bharti Airtel, while 391 were filed with TRAI.
