According to Ovum, ZTE occupies the top spot in the optical market in the first quarter of 2013.
For the period under review, the optical market raked in revenues of $14.5 billion, registering a decline in sales for five consecutive quarters.
Despite the decline, globally, there has been a strong demand for 100 G development kits. The research firm estimates that shipments of 100 G ports registered a quarter-on-quarter growth of 41 per cent. For the period under review, revenues from the shipment of these ports registered a growth of 24 per cent to reach sales worth $1 billion. Sales of next generation converged packet optical gear including OTN switches also witnessed growth. However, the sales of 40G kits registered a decline in the first quarter of 2013.
According to the research firm, equipment spends in EMEA, Asia Pacific and North America is declining whereas the optical market is growing in South America.
