The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has accepted the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India?s (TRAI) proposal that additional 2G spectrum be given to operators using the subscriber-linked allocation criteria for six months.

The regulator has stated that a six-month gap would clear all pending applications for 2G spectrum. However, operators will also have to pay the administered price specified by TRAI for additional 2G spectrum.

Meanwhile, DoT has rejected TRAI’s suggestions that stringent rollouts norms be fulfilled before operators are given additional 2G spectrum based on their customer base.
