
The world’s 100th commercial WCMDA network has been launched by Hungarian operator Pannon, exactly four years after Japan’s NTT DoCoMo became the first operator to commercially introduce the technology in October 2001. According to Informa Telecoms & Media’s World Cellular Information Service, worldwide WCDMA subscriptions reached 34.5 million as of endSeptember and are forecast to cross the 50 million landmark figure in the first quarter of 2006.
