Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Finance had reportedly questioned the role of Home Minister, P. Chidambaram, in the 2G spectrum allocation issue in March, 2011.
A written correspondence sent by the Ministry of Finance suggested that if Chidambaram had recommended, 2G spectrum could have been auctioned, instead of being sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The letter also suggested that Chidambaram, who was the finance minister during the 2G spectrum allocation in 2008, could have over-ruled A. Raja, former Minister of Telecommunications and IT, to make the process more transparent.
The note was shown to the Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice GS Singhvi and Justice AK Ganguly, by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy.
