The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to furnish licence-wise reasons why only 15 out of 69 companies? licences should be cancelled.
In 2010, TRAI had recommended to DoT that as many as 69 new licences are fit for cancellation for not meeting the network roll-out obligations within the stipulated time. Thereafter, DoT reduced it to 15 licences.
The cancellations pertain to licences issued in 2007-08 by former telecom minister A. Raja.
