The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned Sandip Basu, chief executive officer, Loop Telecom and Rajiv Mehrotra, chairman, Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL) in connection with the 2G spectrum issue, according to news reports.
It is believed that Basu was questioned in detail about his company, investments, financial dealings and relations with several big corporates of the country. He was also confronted with several documents seized during searches conducted by the CBI.
Loop Telecom had obtained licenses for 21 circles when spectrum was allocated between September 2007 and January 2008.
Mehrotra, who came after Basu, was also confronted with several documents. It is alleged that undue haste was shown in issuing in principle approval for use of GSM technology to SSTL in one circle.
The CBI also questioned Kaliaperumal, former Minister of Telecommunications and IT A. Raja?s brother.
