STel, which has a licence to operate in six circles and has 1.2 million users at present, has decided to expand its mobile services to Assam and the Northeast circle by August 2010. The company is also keen to tap the three emerging areas of the telecom business -? mobile number portability (MNP), 3G services and intra-circle roaming (ICR). It expects to offer MNP service to its subscribers by the year-end and, having achieved financial closure of Rs 7 billion for the rollout of 3G services, plans to roll out 3G services by the third quarter of 2011-12. For ICR services, S Tel is in talks with existing telecom operators and expects to soon roll out the service in circles like Orissa where it operates.
