Meanwhile, following a DoT directive, ZTE is planning to send around 250 of its Chinese employees back to the country and replace them with Indian citizens. The move is aimed at localising the company’s Indian operations over the next two-three years. According to DoT’s ruling in March 2010, foreign equipment manufacturers are required to employ Indian engineers for running and managing their operations. At present, about 15 per cent of ZTE’s 2,300 staff in India is Chinese. It is planning to employ another 1,000 employees by March 2011.
