DoT has asked the special auditors of three telecom operators –?Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel –? to submit their reports by February 7, 2010. In April 2009, DoT had appointed S.K. Mehta and Company, Chhajed & Joshi and Contractors, and Nayak and Kishnadwala to conduct a special audit of the major operators to check the alleged misreporting of revenues by telecom companies to evade taxes and licence fees. The note issued by the department does not mention Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL), as the auditor in this case was appointed much later and is likely to be given more time to submit its report.
