Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is reported to have received only two proposals, from Virgin Mobile and the Spice Group, for its proposed franchise deal for 3G services.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is reported to have received only two proposals, from Virgin Mobile and the Spice Group, for its proposed franchise deal for 3G services. MTNL, which had invited bids in July 2009 for a 10-year period, is mainly looking for foreign companies with experience in running and managing 3G operations. The selected bidder will have to acquire and serve customers, provide customer care, set up a payment collection system and create a sales and distribution network to promote the MTNL brand. It could also create its own branding and marketing of 3G services and products, advise MTNL and package different tariff plans for 3G services.
