DiGi Telecommunications, Malaysia’s third largest cellular operator by subscribers, is set to upgrade its GSM network in a bid to improve call quality, expand coverage, cope with increased traffic and offer a wider range of features. The operator has signed a deal with Nokia Siemens Networks, whereby the latter will assist with the upgrades by providing its Flexi Base Station. The Finnish vendor will also be responsible for network optimisation and project management over a three-year period. The initial upgrade phase is expected to be complete by November 2009.
