
Alcatel-Lucent has bagged contracts worth $1.7 billion to upgrade, integrate and maintain the telecom networks for two integrated Chinese telecom operators. The vendor has secured a $1 billion contract from China Mobile to offer GSM/EDGE solutions, TD-SCDMA wireless networking equipment, optical, microwave and IP transmission facilities, and IP service routers coupled with application platforms and related services. In addition, the Paris-headquartered company has won a contract valued at $700 million from the China Telecom Corporation to supply CDMA2000 EV-DO networking equipment, application platforms, optical and IP transmission platforms, together with IP service routers and network maintenance services. The two contracts, plus another one to be signed with China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited, will bring an over $2 billion share of the Chinese market to Alcatel-Lucent.
