The South Korean regulator, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), plans to spend approximately $24.6 billion on improving the country’s broadband infrastructure. KCC is aiming to increase speeds for fixed line and wireless broadband services to 1 Gbps and 10 Mbps by 2012. The highest level speeds are expected to be available only in the larger cities while fixed line subscribers in smaller towns are expected to have internet access at speeds of 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps by 2012.
