Another committee set up by DoT to examine TRAI’s recommendations for allowing mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in India has reportedly backed the regulator’s proposals with some minor changes. Among the changes, the committee has suggestedthat the government should restrict any merger between a mobile company and an MVNO in the same circle. Also, while TRAI had recommended that virtual operators should not be allied with more than one operator in a circle, the committee is in favour of allowing MVNOs to get into an agreement with any number of cellular companies in a circle. The committee’s report will be taken up by the Telecom Commission, which will draft the final policy on MVNOs.
