China Telecommunications has awarded a $1.5 billion CDMA tender to China’s ZTE and Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese subsidiary, Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Fujian Fujitsu. The tender is a part of China Telecommunications’ $11.7 billion investment plan for the upgradation and expansion of China Unicom’s CDMA network.

China Telecommunications is in the process of acquiring China Unicom’s CDMA network as a part of the restructuring process of the Chinese telecom industry. While the Chinese telecom company has not issued details of the tender, media reports suggest that ZTE has got half of the contract.
