TRAI has released a consultation paper seeking the views of the industry and experts on issues like permitting internet service providers (ISPs) to interconnect with landline and mobile telephones to provide internet telephony services within the country.
According to the existing licensing provisions, there is no restriction on international PC-to-PC calls through internet telephony. However, ISPs are not permitted to interconnect with public switched telephone networks (PSTNs) or public land mobile network exchanges to provide internet telephony in the country.
