China Mobile is planning to acquire some relatively small but high quality and profit-making telecom enterprises in Asian markets excluding China. According to the company, declining stock markets have led to a drop in the market capitalisation of several Asian telecom firms. At the same time, this has created greater opportunity for striking profitable deals. So far, China Mobile has made only one overseas acquisition when it bought 88.86 per cent stake in Pakistan’s Paktel for $284 million in January 2007.
