According to the Sri Lankan government, Ananda Krishnan, the majority stake owner in Malaysia-based telecom service provider Maxis Communications, will need security clearance to purchase stake in Sri Lanka Telecom. This is reportedly because of his Tamil origins. Maxis Communications is targeting to purchase 25 per cent of Japan-based telecom service provider NTT’s 35 per cent stake in Sri Lanka Telecom.
