In support of the nationwide rollout of mobile number portability (MNP) services in India, Syniverse Technologies, has implemented clearing house and centralised database solutions for mobile operators to rollout MNP across Zone 1, covering northern and western India.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) divided India into two geographic zones ? Zone 1 and Zone 2 ? for the MNP project, selecting separate MNP providers to handle implementation in each zone. Syniverse was awarded the license for Zone 1, which includes the service areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat and seven others.
As an operator-neutral third party, Syniverse maintains an accurate, rapid and seamless number porting process for Indian operators and their subscribers, facilitating the transfer of telephone numbers for subscribers who wish to keep their numbers when changing from one operator to another.
?This is an exciting time for both mobile operators and their subscribers in India,? said Sanjay Kasturia, Vice President, Syniverse, and CEO of the company?s joint venture Syniverse Technologies India Private Limited. ?Syniverse has deep experience with MNP and has played a key role in its implementation in countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, Finland, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States and Canada. We have leveraged this experience as the industry?s MNP experts to help mobile operators in Zone 1 deliver a seamless porting process.?
