Hutchison Essar Limited (HEL), is set to float a tender for around 35 to 40 million GSM lines. It is expected to issue a request for proposal for the new GSM lines shortly. The tender, for which Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola are expected to put in bids, is reportedly worth about $2 billion. The company is planning to roll out the new lines in its existing 16 circles and six Spacetel circles acquired from the Essar Group in 2006. Meanwhile, Spacetel has received a letter of intent from DoT to operate in the Northeast, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir circles where HEL is not currently present.
